A smoke detector may look simple from ground level, but testing a fire detection system properly involves far more than activating a device and waiting for an alarm. Engineers may need to identify the correct detector, select an appropriate test method, manage the control panel, verify signalling, understand dependencies and accurately document the result. Across a large estate containing thousands of devices, small procedural variations can quickly become expensive. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) create an opportunity to make detector inspection and testing more visual, repeatable and closely aligned with an organisation's Standard Operating Procedures.
